We are super excited to have Mike Fuller from Atlassian and a co-author of the latest book on FinOps from O'Reilly come and speak about emerging practices in cloud cost management. We hope you can join us for another virtual event with DevOps Perth.
THE FORMAT
We will kick things off with our usual round of virtual networking using breakout rooms for the first 10-15 minutes.
THE TALK
Cloud migrations and digital transformations are all the rage. DevOps teams all around the world are celebrating how awesomely they have wrangled the biggest technical challenge their companies have ever had. Cloud First and Cloud Native companies are all the rage. At the same time hidden in the back room are the accountants, trying to understand how is it possible for a vendor invoice to have that many digits. Asking themselves, who approved all this spend? and what the hell is a CloudFront anyway?
Often when companies get bill shock the pace of innovation is directly in the cross hairs. Engineers are expected to explain the bill and It is not uncommon for detailed cloud billing data to be in the hundreds of millions or even billions of lines per month.
Mike Fuller (Principal Systems Engineer at Atlassian and co-author of the book “Cloud FinOps” published by O’Reilly Media) will walk us through:
- Why do we need yet another *Ops?.
- What is FinOps?
- Why do you need it?
- Who does it?
There also might be time to ask random Jira questions at the end. :)
