This video takes you walking through North Korea, on walks in Pyongyang as well as walks through the North Korean countryside.

Whilst it includes some of my favourite walks in North Korea, it certainly misses out some of the most beautiful - mainly because I didn't get round to filming these amazing hikes etc yet. (Will do once I get back!).

You may be thinking, are you allowed to walk around in North Korea? Well, yes - and no. But the basic answer is yes; you can walk around in North Korea. But there are places you can walk around, and there are some places you can’t walk around. And like the rules anywhere in North Korea, you should always have a guide with you. But that doesn't mean you have to stay glued to your guide whilst walking! It's probably a lot more free than you're thinking, though!

Let’s get walking!

1. NORTH KOREA WALK 1: PYONGYANG
- Kim Il Sung Square - Foreign Language Bookstore

- Our first walk takes us on one of the most popular walks in Pyongyang - from Kim Il Sung Square (the famous area where military parades take place) to the Foreign Language bookstore.
- This walk takes about 5 - 10 minutes depending on how much time you have and how much time you stick around Kim Il Sung Square.
- To the left is a popular station where the Pyongyang traffic ladies stand. And to the right is the foreign language bookstore!

2. NORTH KOREA WALK 2: KAESONG
-Kaesong Folk Hotel - Kaesong City

- Next up is one of my favourite walks through Kaesong in the far South of North Korea. Here, we are just a few minutes drive away from the DMZ, North - South Korean border.
- When walking in North Korea, it’s ok not to stick like glue to your guide but instead enjoy a walk at your own pace, as long as you don’t wander off too much.
- Originally part of South Korea, Kaesong was spared a lot of bombing during the war so retains a lot of its original buildings and traditional streets.
- It’s a common sight to see lots of bikes during the morning commute.

3. NORTH KOREA WALK 3: WONSAN
- Wonsan Hotel - Wonsan Pier - Wonsan Lighthouse (and back)

- Another favourite walk of mine is through Wonsan. Wonsan is located on North Korea’s east coast. It’s where North Korea’s famous new resort is being built, and also where the Mangyongbong-92 boat is moored.
- Here, you have the chance to explore a seaside town and go for a sunset walk along the pier.
- You’ll find a lot of locals along here going for a walk - and it’s also a popular date spot.
- It’s a perfect place to pick up the catch of the day, and you can even stick around and have some on the pier if you like!
- At the end of the pier is a lighthouse which offers a great view of Wonsan city, including the hotel you’re staying in!

4. NORTH KOREA WALK 4: PYONGYANG
- Back in Pyongyang we take another walk along the river Taedong which separates Pyongyang between East and West, and check out some apartment blocks and the volleyball courts (where we usually conduct an annual game annually against the Koreans!)

THINGS TO NOTE:
- Bus: My really Northern accent when I say the word 'bus' - so sorry..!
- White Streets: Did you notice that the trees are painted white?
For some reason, everyone seems to notice this and ask me why...
I finally got down to the bottom of this. But what are your guesses?
- Filmed throughout 2019-2020, produced in 2022.
