Learn how to Route an External Sidechain source to Neutron 2's Dynamic EQ! I will show you in Ableton Live, but the method will work in any DAW!

Nuetron 2's Dynamic EQ is a next level mixing tool. Setting up an External Sidechain source to trigger the dynamic EQ filters is one of the best ways to sculpt out frequencies of one channel to make room for another without being unnecessarily destructive is incredibly useful for precision based mixing.

In this video, I show you how to set up the basic external sidechain routing into the Dynamic EQ in the all new Neutron 2.

There are a few ways of achieving this routing in Ableton Live. I'm going to show you the best method I know of and that is by way of a return track.

First, you need at least 2 tracks. A track with Neutron 2's Dynamic EQ Module (if you have Neutron 2 Advanced), or the Mothership, which contains the Dynamic EQ.

Inside the EQ, select one of the filter nodes. The click the Dynamic EQ Option. You can also choose if you want the filter to boost or cut the frequencies by using the Up or Down buttons.

From the drop down menu for the Sidechain source option select "Ext. Full".

The other track you need is the sidechain trigger source, which is used to trigger the Dynamic EQ filter nodes.

Make a return track.

Send the trigger source, like the kick or the drum beat, to the return track. Send it all the way; 100%.

Then take the return tracks audio output and send it to the track with Neutron 2. The second drop down should automatically update to the plug, but if it doesn’t, just click the second drop down and select the right plug. This will be necessary if there are more than one plugs on the track that can take a sidechain source.

That is it. You should be getting the desired effect at this point. Now, you just use the EQ functions as normal. You also have access to the threshold control for any EQ nodes which have Dynamic EQ enabled.
