When something really awful happens,
When something really awful happens, my first thought is: “I just need to get through this. I can’t live like this.” But then....we do. Sometimes we have to unpack our bags and live in what we hoped would be a temporary stop.
I could SO relate to hearing Suleika Jaouad describe how it felt to enter this new place when she received her cancer diagnosis.
She says, ”Naively and and maybe a little arrogantly, I believed at first that I was going to be able to remain the same person that I had been. I saw this as a temporary stop in the kingdom of the sick and I was planning not to unpack my bags, not to get too comfortable, I had no interest in going to support groups. I didn’t want to call myself a cancer patient. I didn’t want anything to do with that."
