Die Zeche Zollverein XII in Essen war von 1847 bis 1986 das größte, modernste und schönste Steinkohlebergwerk der Welt und sorgte bis zu Ihrer Stilllegung für Spitzenleistungen im Bergbau. 12.000 Tagestonnen Kohle wurde einst dort gefördert.
Als das Land Nord-Rhein-Westfalen das Gelände kaufte, wurde die Zeche unter Denkmalschutz gestellt. Heute ist sie mit der ehemaligen Kokerei und der Schachtanlage 1/2/8 UNESCO-Welterbe und ist heute ein Zentrum für Kultur- und Kreativwirtschaft.
The Zollverein XII in Essen was from 1847 to 1986 the largest, most modern and most beautiful colliery in the world and arranged till her decommissioning for the highest mining output in Europe. 12.000 tons of coal were once brought to the surface here to be processed into coke.
When the state of Nord-Rhein-Westfalen bought the terrain, the Coalmine was declared to a National Monument. Today, with the coking plant and the mine 1/2/8 it is UNESCO World Heritage site and now there is a center for cultural and creative industries.
