The Diversity of Forestry

In this film we will learn more about three methods: clear-cutting with general environmental considerations, shelterwood cutting with general environmental considerations, and selective cutting.

Clear-cutting has been the dominant forestry method in Sweden since the 1950s. Selective cutting and shelterwood cutting are two continuous cover forestry methods that are also used, but are not as widespread as clear-cutting.

Which method is best? Unfortunately, there is no simple answer to that question. Forestry is characterized by a long-term perspective – changing the structure of a forest takes several generations – and therefore needs to be very well founded.
