1954 Smith-Corona Sterling Disassembly for Cleaning

In this video I partially disassemble a 1954 Smith-Corona Sterling typewriter in preparation for cleaning.  (The cleaning will happen in a later video.)  My goal is to remove as much of the non-metal (plastic, rubber, painted parts) as possible so that I can clean the machine with odorless mineral spirits, which will be good for the mechanism but bad for those non-metal parts.  I'll clean the non-metal parts separately with appropriate cleaning agents.  For the remaining non-metal parts that I can't easily remove (the keycaps and the paper bail rollers) I'll cover them carefully to avoid damage.
