Howard Hughes' Spruce Goose is
Howard Hughes' Spruce Goose is the world's largest flying boat. The Hughes H-4 Hercules, as it was named, was built almost entirely of birch and only flew once before being stored. After Hughs' death in 1976, the Goose came out of storage to sit next to the Queen Mary in hopes of becoming a tourist attraction. It did not take off, however, and was relocated to a museum in Oregon.
