HCA Healthcare Mission Moments: Maddux Brothers Living Donor Kidney Transplant

When HCA Healthcare patient David Maddux learned he had end-stage renal disease, he was put on dialysis and joined the approximately 90,000 people in the United States waiting for a lifesaving kidney transplant. According to Donate Life America, most people wait three to five years for a kidney from a deceased donor. David’s family knew he couldn’t wait that long for a kidney, so his brother Matthew volunteered to be a living donor. Thanks to The Transplant Institute at HCA Healthcare affiliate Research Medical Center and his brother, Matthew, David was given the gift of life.
