'Blackjack' flown by Sainty &
'Blackjack' flown by Sainty & ZJ913 flown by Paddy, depart from Blackpool Airport after the Blackpool Airshow 2022 over the weekend and hit the Lake District known as LFA17 for low level flying. They then headed back to their home station, RAF Coningsby.
Blackjack was actually flown by last year's Typhoon Display pilot, Flt Lt James Sainty and accompanying him through the Lakes was this year's Typhoon Display pilot, Flt Lt Adam 'Paddy' O'Hare. Anarchy1 is the callsign for the display pilot, but when in transit (e.g. headed back to base) they use the callsign 'RIOT'. Well, "I predict a riot!".
This was Sainty’s “fini” flight with 29 Sqn as he changes squadron to 12 Sqn. What a great way to end a time with a squadron, flying low level in Blackjack.
The Ted Coningsby Crew decided to locate to a new spot, very close to Dunmail Raise called 'Helm Crag'. This has a characteristic rock formation, more famously known as 'the Lion and the Lamb'. It has an altitude of 405m (1,319ft), so this very high up to watch aircraft low level flying. This area of low flying area in Cumbria is known as LFA17. The UK is divided into 20 separate low flying areas.
Three of these areas are also known as ‘tactical training areas’. These are in central Wales, northern Scotland, the borders area of southern Scotland and northern England. Mach Loop is LFA7.
