Soil is full of micro-organims which are both beneficial and pathogenic in nature. The most threatening fungi and bacteria for sustainable crop production live in soil. These are responsible for number of diseases such as root rots, damping off,crown gall, wilts etc. In comparison to aerial pathogens, soil borne pathogens are difficult to manage.
