In this video, Stephanie Smooke Praw, MD, an endocrinologist at the UCLA Endocrine Center, explains hyperthyroidism. This medical condition happens when the thyroid gland produces too much thyroid hormone.

The thyroid is a small gland in the neck that releases hormones to regulate certain body functions. When it releases too much thyroid hormone, a person can experience heart palpitations, hand tremors, excessive sweating, frequent loose stools, anxiety and weight loss. If these symptoms persist, it's important to see a doctor or an endocrinologist for evaluation.
