Spot welding with nickel strip is a common method for connecting 18650 battery cells in a 2S2P configuration. Here's a step-by-step guide on how to spot weld nickel strips for a 2S2P battery pack:

Prepare the battery cells: Ensure that the 18650 battery cells you're using are in good condition and have matching specifications. Identify the positive and negative terminals of each cell.

Determine the layout: Plan the layout of your battery pack. In a 2S2P configuration, you will have two sets of parallel cells (P1 and P2), and each set will consist of two cells connected in series (S1 and S2).

Cut nickel strips: Measure and cut nickel strips for each connection point. You will need four strips for each parallel group (P1 and P2) and four strips for each series connection (S1 and S2).

Clean the battery cell terminals and nickel strips: Use sandpaper or a file to clean the terminals of the battery cells and the ends of the nickel strips. This will help improve the quality of the weld.

Connect the parallel groups: Take two battery cells and place them side by side. Align the positive terminals of both cells and the negative terminals of both cells. Position the nickel strips on top of the terminals, making sure they cover the entire width of the terminals. Use a spot welder to weld the nickel strips onto the terminals of both cells.

Connect the series connections: Take two sets of parallel-connected cells (P1 and P2) and place them in a series configuration. Align the positive terminal of P1 with the negative terminal of P2. Position the nickel strips on top of the terminals and weld them in place.

Inspect the welds: After spot welding, visually inspect the welds to ensure they are secure and cover the entire width of the terminals. Check for any loose or weak connections. Use a multimeter to verify the continuity of the connections.

Insulate the connections: Once the welds are complete and verified, insulate the connections using insulating tape or heat shrink tubing. This helps prevent short circuits and improves the overall safety of the battery pack.

Repeat for the remaining cells: Follow the same process to connect the remaining cells in the 2S2P configuration.

It's crucial to note that spot welding can be hazardous if proper safety precautions are not taken. Ensure you are using appropriate safety equipment, such as gloves and eye protection, and follow the manufacturer's instructions for the spot welding machine.
