The voice is an intermittent squeal "tiip - tiip - tiip".
The body is 15-20 cm long, the wings are 7-8 cm, the weight is 25-40 g. The kingfisher has bright plumage, shiny blue-green above, with small light spots on the head and wings, rusty-red below. The stripe across the eye to the nape and neck is light. The head is large, the beak is long and straight, the wings and tail are short. Male and female are the same coloration, but males are slightly larger and brighter. Close up, the color of the fisher is pale, its brightness is achieved due to the light refracted by the feathers.
