Tears of Steel remains one of the few open sources of high quality scene linear exr footage for testing and learning visual effects and compositing.

It is difficult to know what the content of the footage is without downloading the massive OpenEXR source files. That's why I've created this lightweight dailies movie version of all of the plates. The original shot name and frame numbers are in the overlays, so you can easily find the source frames.

The goal of this upload is to be able to locate a shot and framerange that you want to work with, and easily download it.

There are a few methods of downloading the source exr files. The easy GUI method would be to use a download manager.

The Simple Mass Downloader Chrome extension is one I have had good results with:
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/de...

You can navigate to the plate you want to download, select the frames you want, right-click and add selection links to list.

If you're looking for a more automated approach you can use a commandline program like wget.

For example, this command would download the entire archive, excluding all folders named 01_* to 04_*, and excluding all "linear_hd" folders, effectively giving you only 4k source frames.

wget -r -nc -c -np --random-wait -U Mozilla -e robots=off -A '*.exr' -R '*0[0-4]_*' -X '/tearsofsteel/tearsofsteel-footage-exr/*/linear_hd/' https://media.xiph.org/tearsofsteel/t...

You can also download the individual quicktimes from this mega.nz link:

These dailies movies were generated from the 4k exr source files using the generate-dailies commandline utility: https://github.com/jedypod/generate-d...

The source plates are encoded with BT.709 primaries. The plates were converted from Linear BT.709 to Linear ACES AP0, and encoded using the ACES Rec.709 RRT.
