Vogt striae
One of the definitive signs and indicators of Keratoconus.
They are vertical lines in the posterior stroma that disappear on pressure on the globe.
Though striae are seen most commonly in Keratoconus (65% of eyes), they can be seen in normal as well as edematous corneas (Fuchs dystrophy and Bullous Keratopathy) also.
Striae are postulated to protect collagen fibrils against external mechanical forces and increased IOP.
Though striae are undulations and NOT ruptures in continuous collagen lamellae of the stroma, they are a risk factor for Hydrops.
Keratoconus eyes with Vogt Striae have worse visual acuity, higher refractive errors,  worse corneal topographic parameters, deeper AC, and thinner corneas than Keratoconus eyes without them.
