Even here in coastal South Carolina, the winter days are short and sometimes cold. We still do our best to get out and dig for something as much as we can because nothing warms up a shark tooth hunter like a freshly dug megalodon. Sloth Party is our go-to honey hole, and it never disappoints. I got a bunch of goodies today despite my lax attention to detail. I almost missed one of the best angustidens teeth of the day by throwing sand. I thought I was digging overburden and I just pitched a shovel full of gravel to the side along with a nearly 3 inch angustidens. Such a careless act forced me to check my privilege and pay closer attention. There have been many times where I struggled to find a common extinct tiger shark tooth, much less a sizeable quality extinct giant white shark tooth. I slowed my shovel hand to keep myself from repeating the grievous mistake. Of course, how would I actually know if I missed something? I didn’t think too much about it then, because standing there like a philosopher wasn’t getting me any closer to finding big teeth. Let’s just say the rest of the day I dug slower and I came home happy.
