I don't know about you,
I don't know about you, but I love a bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich! I also love Miracle Whip on that BLT, it's what I grew up eating and I love it. But, alas, we are out of Miracle Whip so today I have to use mayonnaise. I like mayo fine, but on a BLT it is second best. To make this fun I thought it would be interesting to do a mayonnaise taste test of the four big hitters on the grocery store shelf! Let's go see which one I like best.
I grew up eating Miracle Whip, my wife, Noreen, despises it. She grew up eating Hellman's mayo. Seems that lots of companies are getting on the mayo wagon lately. Heinz being the latest brand to join the mayo game. So we decided to try the four most popular brands, in our area. Heinz, Hellman's, Kraft and the south's favorite mayo, Dukes.
We blind taste tested all four and compared their color, texture and mouth feel. Three were thick and creamy. One was lacking in flavor and literally disappeared on the tongue. One was chemical and fishy. One was super tangy and one was just right.
In the end Duke's won for me. Just the right amount of tang and creaminess for a BLT or anything. My wife still prefers Hellman's but will eat Dukes if it is on sale. Old habits die hard. I will say we did not enjoy the Heinz as much as we thought we would and it had a very interesting back taste on the palate. The Kraft was the bottom choice. It is slick, oily and has no flavor in our opinion. It melts on your tongue and leaves no unctuousness. It has no body and really does nothing for me. So now we know what we like.
