Every second counts when the Southend RNLI hit the choppy waves to save lives.

Having a bird's eye view during a search is invaluable, but the RAF stopped providing helicopter support in 1969.

Step forward the spirited amateur men and women of the Southend Light Aviation Centre. They provide an eye in the sky from their motley collection of aircraft, and absorb the cost themselves.
