What is Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development and how can we use it in planning for effective teaching and learning?
When it comes to making sure all learners make substantial and sustained progress in our sessions, we need to ensure that the tasks and activities set are appropriate to each of our learners.
In order to learn effectively, it’s been argued that we need to be presented with tasks that are just out of the reach of our present abilities. ZPD, is the difference between what a learner cannot do without help and what he or she can do with some support and scaffolding from the tutor, their peers or other classroom resources.
