The Sentara Heart Valve and Structural Disease Center is a comprehensive center offering highly specialized services and innovative treatments, include the WATCHMAN™ device. This is a catheter-delivered heart implant alternative to blood thinners for patients who have atrial fibrillation (Afib) not related to heart valve disease. The device is designed to keep harmful blood clots from forming in the left atrial appendage (LAA) and entering the blood stream, which could potentially cause a life-threatening stroke.
