This video was filmed in patch 3.8.2 some things (like the generals trait for extra defence platform capacity) have now changed. However the general thrust still remains the same and as no platforms even took damage the armour bug is irrelevant!

Oh, and I had to force spawn in the zroni tech, as I didn't roll the zroni precursor and didn't want to restart the game again and again!

For those asking the defence platforms had two designs, one full hanger design and the other full neutron launcher!
