She worked very hard and virtually never missed a beat, much alone a performance. She was a perfectionist who worked very hard. She put in a lot of effort, Ms. Rivera. The early 1950s marked the beginning of her career on Broadway, when she soon established herself as a well-liked performer. In the years leading up to her transfer into the world of musical theater, she had received training in musical theater. She emanated a charm that was founded on strong song and dance techniques, as well as the pleasures that she experienced from engaging in them—both of which contributed to her attractiveness. Her body language was extremely expressive, and her voice was a head-turner throughout the entire performance.

A few of the iconic and unforgettable ladies that she has portrayed on Broadway are Anita in "West Side Story" (1957), Rosie in "Bye Bye Birdie" (1960), the murdering floozy Velma Kelly in "Chicago" (1975), and the title role in "Kiss of the Spider Woman" (1993). These are just a few examples. She was responsible for the production of renowned musical numbers, such as "America" in "West Side Story," "One Boy" and "Spanish Rose" in "Bye Bye Birdie," and "All That Jazz" in "Chicago." Her performances in those roles led to the creation of these works.

Despite the fact that Ms. Rivera was primarily self-taught in her career as a singer and actor, she did obtain an education on the job from some of the most renowned educators in the pantheon. The choreographers Bob Fosse and Jerome Robbins, the composer Leonard Bernstein, the songwriting partnership of John Kander and Fred Ebb, and the writer Terrence McNally were among the individuals that were a part of this group.
