Downstream processing of enzymes

The unique characteristics of enzymes (biocatalysts) makes them highly applicable for a number of chemical transformation reactions in pharmaceutical industries. In this video, I will discuss the general steps of downstream processing (DSP) of enzymes for use in the pharmaceutical industry. Moreover, I will give two practical examples and discuss DSP of lysozyme and tannase. Finally, I will go over quality control requirements imposed by the FDA and how this determines whether enzyme production and DSP has been successful.
