Police on scene of a fatal collision ( WARNING THIS VIDEO SHOWS FOOTAGE OF A FATAL COLLISION)

Just after 2p.m. Emergency crews responded to the intersection of Lansdowne Street and River Rd after reports that a vehicles ran a red light at high speeds colliding with 6-8 vehicles.

Witnesses on scene said a van  began passing vehicles on the wrong side of the road, ran a red light before the collision. Several off duty nurses as well as emergency personnel immediately ran to the scene and began providing emergency treatment to the patients involved.

Paramedics and firefighters quickly responded and upon arrival located several vehicles with severe damage after a high speed impact. Paramedics immediately requested Ornge respond but the helicopter crews were not able to as they were already in service. Firefighters worked on extracting occupants out of two vehicles.

One person was pronounced deceased on scene while other patients were transported to PRHC in serious condition.

Lansdowne Street is currently closed at River Rd South and west of the Lansdowne Street bridge at Sherburne Street.

No further information is available at this time, Peterborough Police are on scene and are beginning their investigation. Expect the Road closer for the rest of the evening.
