Join Dr Anastasia Belina-Johnson (Royal College of Music) as she follows in the footsteps of French composer Augusta Holmès (1847 – 1903) in Paris. Anastasia is one of five academics selected to be part of the AHRC / BBC Radio 3 Forgotten Female Composers project, where they each researched the life and work of their chosen composer, and in some instances, created orchestral parts from an original manuscript.

Anastasia researched Augusta Holmès who was born in the French capital in 1847 and was highly regarded among fellow composers. In  fact she was the first woman to have an opera premiered at the Théâtre de l’Opéra (Palais Garnier) in Paris.

The project culminated in a concert on International Women's Day (8th March 2018) performed live by the BBC Concert Orchestra.

The video soundtrack features an extract of the BBC Concert Orchestra performing Holmès' Allegro Feroce during the IWD Concert, courtesy of BBC Radio 3.
