Americans and Britons pronounce certain words differently. Some words are also stressed differently in both Englishes.

In this video, I selected a few words stressed differently to highly how the differences in stress pattern make them sound so different.

You will also see that our stress pattern in Nigeria aligns more with British English although some people have switched to stressing these words in this video like Americans perhaps because they learnt from American films and cartoons 😀. (you might be one of them)

I briefly mentioned the unreleased T in the video;however, I think , a video of that is necessary for people who want to achieve near native fluency.

In fast speech, T’s at the end of English words often sound unreleased.  You can hear it in how I pronounces the American versions.

Then again, the word KNEW is pronounced ‘nyoo’ in British English and ‘noo’ in American English.

For those of you who employ teachers with accents, it’s important you find out which English-styled pronunciation the teacher uses. American English can sound so musical to the ears that if you see someone who does it 50% well, you will approve him to teach your kids.

If you use American English to write Oral English in Waec, you will not do so well.

Let me know which pronunciation you use mostly. Was this video helpful to you?
Could you kindly like and share?🙏🙂
