Assemblies in Solid Edge can include many thousands of components, and users who try viewing all parts at once often say "It's difficult to work out what's going on", or "My workstation struggles when working in a large assembly." Hiding parts can make things much easier, but selecting and hiding things in a 3D CAD system can sometimes take as long as actually editing geometry.

Fortunately, a function exists to show and hide user-defined groups of components with a few simple clicks - Assembly Configurations.

In this EDGECast episode, we explore what Configurations are (tip - they're different to SolidWorks configurations) how to create configurations in your own assemblies, allowing you to view only the parts important to you when working on certain parts of the assembly. The alternative Snapshot and Isolate commands will also be explained, and finally we'll show you how to apply configurations stored in subassemblies, while still at top level.

We recommend that anyone working with a large-medium Solid Edge assembly (more than 50 components) without configurations watches this video, although even small assembly users can save time by using the tips shown here. In other words, if you don't already use Assembly Configurations... you probably should!
