Today, we’re in the pasture
Today, we’re in the pasture talking about grazing spring forage. We’ll learn together how to know how big to make grazing paddocks. Also, I need some help identifying some forages.
Here’s the formula for how large to make you paddock: Mixed Grass Pasture
Avg length of forage per acre x 150lb - 250lb (depending on density)
150 x 6 in avg = 900 lb per acre available forage
Then figure out how much forage you animals need for a day by calculating total animal weight x 3% = forage needed per day
So if your animals have a total weight of 6000lbs x 3%, you need 180lbs per day to feed your herd.
You have 900lbs per acre available. You can give them 1/2 acre per day and still leave more than half as residual.
