India and Afghanistan collide in the third and final T20I of the series at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday (January 17). With two comfortable wins the hosts have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead. The visitors will try to avoid the whitewash and win the first-ever game against the Men in Blue. Rohit Sharma in his 150th T20I won the toss and decided to bowl first without any second thought on a batting paradise in Indore.

Afghanistan failed to make full use of the foundation laid by Gulbadin Naib (57 runs) who was promoted to number three. Plenty of batters got to decent starts but failed to play a long innings and also saw plenty of wickets falling in the slog overs leading to a below-par score at the end of 20 overs. Arshdeep (3 wickets) was the successful bowler for India with spinners Axar Patel and Ravi Bishnoi picking a couple of wickets each to skittle out the visitors for 172.

Fazalhaq Farooqi silenced the Indore crowd by knocking over the Indian skipper for a golden duck as Hitman went for a wild hoick in the very first over to dull the occasion of his 150th T20I getting out for his second consecutive duck. Virat Kohli who featured in a T20 International for the first time since his appearance against England in the T20 World Cup Semi-Final in November 2022 showed great intent by hitting.

A few cracking strokes but was out to his rival Naveen-ul-Haq in the last over of the Powerplay. What happened next was something special. Youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal (68 runs) who came back to the XI after recovering from a groin injury entertained the crowd with his audacious ball-striking ability hammering a sizzling half-century. Jaiswal was brilliantly supported by Shivam Dube who showcased a stunning display of six-hitting.

Especially taking the likings on the 'President' Mohammad Nabi slamming him for three consecutive sixes. Dube (63* runs) stood tall till the end and yet again scored a half-century. Karim Janat did take a couple of wickets in the 13th over but Jaiswal and Dube had already killed the contest with a massive partnership as India chased down the target with 6 wickets and 26 balls remaining. Bengaluru is another batting paradise with small boundaries.

Kohli is back at his home ground and India might make a couple of changes to their previous XI. They might give opportunity to Kuldeep Yadav in place of Bishnoi and also use an extra seam option instead of a spinner by replacing Washington Sundar with Avesh Khan. Afghanistan might want to give opportunities to benched players with Qais Ahmad being the possible swap for Noor Ahmad. As bowlers we feel we have nothing to lose here Chinnaswamy stadium.

Can India complete a series whitewash and send Afghanistan back empty-handed? Can Afghanistan script history by beating India for the first time? India: With the series wrapped up already Sanju Samson Kuldeep Yadav and Avesh Khan could be in for an opportunity. Kuldeep and Avesh spent a lot of time bowling in the nets on the eve of the fixture. Afghanistan: Mujeeb made a good start to the series in Mohali but was taken for a lot of runs in Indore.

What to expect: Lot of runs? This comes with '?' because the last T20I at this venue in December threw a curveball towards India and Australia with a tacky surface. With enough time gone since the ODI World Cup and that fixture fresh conditions on offer could revert to type. Afghanistan have the impressive leggie Qais Ahmad on the bench but the presence of three big-hitting left-handers Yashasvi Jaiswal Shivam Dube and Rinku Singh in India's top-six could discourage them from bringing him in.
