Have you ever thought looking at these mega cargo and cruise vessels - how does a ship turn in water?
You must be thinking about the rudder doing this job. However, Imagine the size of a rudder in comparison to the size of the ship. The rudder is incomparably smaller to the size of the hull that is to be turned by it. So, how does the rudder turn the ship? Well, as we saw before, the rudder doesn’t turn a ship.
In fact, the rudder moment created by the rudder is negligibly small to turn the ship by the required heading angle. If that’s the case, then what is it that turns the ship?
