Landing of cargo airplane Antonov An-225 Mriya at RIX. At the beginning of video it just looks like it's hanging in the air because i have zoomed in 40 times :) Skip to 2 min for touchdown. The sound first comes from another plane taking off, then we discuss that Antonov looks too high for the short distance left until runway. Antonov An 225 is biggest airplane in world, it has three engines on every wing, it's cargo bay is huge, the wingspan is enormous, it has train of wheels, and Antonov's tail is huge!
I was lucky to be invited as media photographer when Antonov An 225 did its first landing in RIX, Riga International Airport. We were on the runway and waiting for it to show up in skies, then this huge behemoth slowly approached airport and did spectacular landing. After that it was greeted with water cannons, a tradition for every plane coming first time to airport. Next was Antonov parking in front of media and trucks with cargo. Then the cabin was lifted up so the Antonov Mryia was open for short excursion of media, after that cargo was loaded. Few hours later Antonov An 225 returns to skies with impressive take off and thousands of folks watching it here for the first time.
