In this video, we go over a step-by-step procedure for how to cut a circular access hole in a toilet tank using a diamond tipped hole cutter. If you are installing a Potty Sniffer air intake with a toilet tank that doesn’t already include air vent cutouts for tubing and switch cable passthrough and aren’t satisfied with the gap and fit and finish left using tank lid spacers, then this video is for you. The toilet tank modification being demonstrated requires the tank to be disassembled from the toilet or for the back face of the tank to be open and accessible for drilling with a portable drill. Cutting a full circular hole between 1 to 2 inches in diameter is normally the best method for this situation since the hole cutter bit is more secure when fully engaged. However, if your toilet is already installed and it’s not practical to remove the toilet tank for modification, cutting a half-circle cutout along the upper rim of the tank is also an option. Check out our companion how-to video showing this alternate method for an installed toilet. Visit us at pottysniffer.com/ for more information about the Potty Sniffer toilet ventilation system.
