Litaniae Pretiosissimi Sanguinis Domini Nostri
Litaniae Pretiosissimi Sanguinis Domini Nostri Iesu Christi (Litany of the Most Precious Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ).
The month of July traditionally honors the Most Precious Blood of Jesus. This devotion has been around for centuries, though it wasn't until 1849 that a formal celebration was instituted by Pope Pius IX. This litany was drawn up by the Sacred Congregation of Rites and promulgated by Pope John XXIII on February 24, 1960. However, the form of the Litany is actually older. The devotion to Jesus specifically in His most Precious Blood was first popularized by St. Gaspar del Bufalo (1786-1837, feast Dec. 28) who founded the Missioners of the Most
Precious Blood. A partial indulgence is granted to the faithful who recite this litany, which is approved for either private or public use.
It is the blood of Christ, the Lamb of God, which cleanses us from sin: Sanguis Christi, Salva nos!
