Secret lives of mountain lions: Part 2

#WildlifeWednesday: Sound on! 🔊 The Secret Lives of Mountain Lions... Part 2. Some of you may remember the video from a few months ago of the mountain lion lounging and grooming in front of our cameras for hours on end.

Well, now a new younger female mountain lion has been showing up on our cameras. She's found the same favorite “sitting spot” – which also happens to be a place where our staff who check our wildlife cameras also enjoy sitting and taking a rest 😳

The sounds she is making – called “caterwauling” – are an attempt to attract a male. As she walks away, notice the scrape she makes with her back feet, depositing a scent as a way of leaving a message for other lions in the area.

The last clip shows the much larger territorial male in the area stopping through the same spot. They have been traveling within days of each other over the past several months. Only time will tell if the female's calls have paid off.
