Sonic Lore: Why Maria Was on the Ark

Sonic Adventure 2 is the game that introduced new characters to the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Such as Shadow The Hedgehog, Maria Robotnik, and Gerald Robotnik. However it doesn't go into detail as of to why Maria was on the Ark in the first place. Well that's why I'm here to explain it.
