वीर तानाजी मालुसरे का जन्म ईसवी सन 1644 को महाराष्ट्र के सतारा में हुआ
वे छत्रपति शिवाजी महाराज द्वारा निर्मित मराठा साम्राज्य के मुख्य सेनापति और किलेदार थे
तानाजी महाराज ने सिंहगढ़ के युद्ब में मात्र 342 मराठो के साथ 5000 मुघलो को धूल चटा दी और कोंडाणा दुर्ग को विजय किया इस दुर्ग से मराठा साम्राज्य अत्यधिक ताकतवर होकर उभरा।
औरंगजेब के सत्ता में आते ही उसने शिवाजी महाराज के विरुद्ध अपनी सेना भेजी
1665 में राजा जयसिंह ने मुघल सेना के साथ दक्कन पर चढ़ाई की
और शिवाजी महाराज को पुरन्दर के किले में घेर लिया
जिसके बाद इन दोनों के मध्य पुरन्दर की संधि हुई
जिंसमे शिवाजी महाराज को मराठा साम्राज्य के 23 किले मुघलो को सोपने पड़े इन्ही किलो में एक महत्वपूर्ण किला था कोंडाणा
जिसे मराठो द्वारा पुनः जीत पाना असम्भव था
पर शिवाजी इसे जितना चाहते थे
जिसके बाद इस किले को विजय करने के लिए तानाजी महाराज ने इस किले पर चढ़ाई की और विजय किया
