Rahul Gandhi has been appointed as leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha. Senior Congress leader KC Venugopal announced this on Tuesday, June 25th.
As the leader of the opposition, he will be responsible for holding the Modi government accountable in Lok Sabha. Mr Gandhi will also be part of key panels - like those to select Election Commissioners and the CBI director - along with the Prime Minister. The constitutional post will also allow him to call on visiting heads of state to give his perspective on national issues.
