The current-generation Ssangyong Musso has been on sale since 2018 and retains a small but strong following here in Australia due to its bang for buck.

Costing less than $50,000 driveaway for the very top model, the Musso is far cheaper than the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux, and competes primarily with the likes of the GWM Ute Cannon and the LDV T60 Max.

A 2.2L turbo-diesel sits under the bonnet producing 133kW/420Nm which is fed to the wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission and a part-time 4WD system.

The Musso tested here is the long-wheelbase version that also features a coil-sprung rear end when most rivals make sure of a leaf-sprung setup, yet retains a 3.5-tonne towing capacity.
