Headquartered in New Freedom Pennsylvania, Steam Into History operates about 10 miles of the old Northern Central Railway mainline from New Freedom to Hanover Jct as a steam powered tourist railway operation. Utilizing a 4-4-0 American type steam engine, SIH's excursions and general atmosphere is based on the America Civil War, and the role the railroad's played in it, particularly on this very route.

The 4-4-0 used at SIH is the 'York' 17, the number 17 is also known as the 'William H. Simpson' after one of the founding members of the operation. The 17 was built in 2013 by the Kloke Locomotive Works of Elgin Illinois. She was the second engine built by the Kloke Locomotive Works, the first being 4-4-0 #63, the Leviathan.
