The Sydney Opera House is
The Sydney Opera House is one of the most iconic buildings in the world, and it's celebrating its 50th anniversary in October 2023. In this video, we'll take a look at the history of the Opera House, from its humble beginnings as a competition to find a new home for opera and dance in Sydney, to its eventual completion in 1973 and its designation as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007.
We'll also explore the unique design of the Opera House, which was inspired by the sails of a ship. And we'll meet some of the famous people who have performed at the Opera House over the years, including Sammy Davis Jr., Ella Fitzgerald, Joan Sutherland, Sting, Bob Dylan, and Prince.
I'll tell you about some of the events that have taken place at the Opera House over the years, such as Arnold Schwarzenegger winning the Mr. Olympia title there in 1980 and Pope John Paul II giving a speech there in 1988.
