“Dooriyan”, when translated, means “Distances”
“Dooriyan”, when translated, means “Distances” and is a depiction of long-distance relationships and separation from our loved ones. Although it has been a recurrent theme from time immemorial, the sheer magnitude of people in recent times that have tasted this bittersweet situation is astounding.
Long distance relationships manifest themselves in many ways and we have all experienced it at some point in our lives, in many forms of relationships. It is especially painful when our soulmates are separated from us, owing to unavoidable circumstances. Although we understand the reasons behind it, there is no peace that comes with understanding. Reasons and explanations are there but there is never comfort in the distance between loved ones, physical or emotional. In order to minimize the pain, we make ourselves numb. Other times, we are filled with anguish. And just when a sliver of hope shines through, heartbreaking disappointment abounds to further quash our emotions. Emptiness and abandonment haunt us and the helplessness we feel continues to seek us out in the darkest of times.
The dilemmas, inner battles and conflicting emotions that we go through is what “Dooriyan” is all about. This is a conversation between two loved ones separated by distance, crying out in anguish yet giving each other hope as both yearn to be united. A unique twist of the song is that it's bilingual (Urdu-Turkish) and the video shot in two different countries by two different teams.
Qamar hopes to share the pain and express the feelings of all who have felt the longing from being separated from their loved ones, for whatever reason, through this song “Dooriyan”.
