Casteism vs ‘Vishwaguru dream’: A roundtable on caste bias at workplaces in India | Out tomorrow

In June, an IIM Bengaluru professor accused his colleagues of caste-based discrimination. He wrote letters of complaint to Karnataka Social Welfare Department and even President Droupadi Murmu, saying that besides him, 50 percent of students on campus were from backward communities and faced discrimination regularly.  

But the alleged ordeal at IIM Bengaluru isn’t isolated. Many from marginalised communities have reported caste discrimination at educational institutes and workplaces. Newslaundry spoke to three senior employees of top government institutions on the malaise in the system.  

Professor Onkar Mal, former faculty member of IMD Gurgaon and BITS Pilani and former employee at ONGC; Nagsen Sonare, former senior employee at ONGC; and Hridaya Narain, former senior employee at Air India, shared their lived experiences.
