In this video, we will exclusively talk about red cherry shrimp or cherry red shrimp from the neocaridina species.
Cherry red shrimps are wonderful algae eaters. Cherry red shrimps are found in almost all parts of Asia, even in India.
Cherry red shrimps can be seen in the river hiding in the plants and eating the algae.
Cherry red shrimps do come in other colors like fire red shrimps, blue shrimps, white shrimps, yellow shrimps, etc.
Due to the cherry red shrimps breeding the colors keep changing and there are so many colors. Cherry red shrimps or red cherry shrimps requires a very good substrate for its growth. A good Planted Aquarium substrate can buffer the ph of the water and inturn help the cherry red shrimp to look and feel healthy, grow and even the cherry red shrimps breed better. Cherry red shrimps ph needs to be in 6.5 which can be buffered by a really good substrate system.
Cherry red shrimps can eat anything literally, shrimps can eat algae, excess fish food, newly growing plants, dead leaves, and even dead fish, shrimps are called omnivore to an extent they scavengers.
Cherry red shrimps or any other shrimps are algae eaters first if your tank well balanced with very fewer algae, please do make sure you feed your shrimps with algae wafers at least twice in a week.
cherry red shrimp or neocaridina species are very easy to breed, these shrimps can breed if the conditions are right and getting enough food. Point to note is that Female shrimps are bigger in size and the baby shrimps can grow to full size is just three months. Cherry red shrimps breeding is that easy.
If shrimps overpopulate in your tank they may become a pest in your tank. if your tank very few fish and lots of plants, you will add less fish food and these shrimps will start to eat the newly growing plants. Freshwater fish too eat the baby shrimps to keep their population in control but not to an extent. But shrimps can hide out in the dark places and can breed a lot. Cherry red shrimps grow bigger by a process called molting. Cherry red shrimp molting processes, wherein they shed or molt their top skin layer and even eat them to get the energy back.
Shrimps are the first thing in your aquarium to die if your conditions are not right as they are very sensitive. if you exclusively want a shrimp only tank keep lot of moss, avoid hard water as it affects the shrimp breeding.
Cherry red shrimp temperature for breeding - 22- 28 degrees is best for shrims breeding.
