Ep. 95 MAKING MOSAIC SUNFLOWERS
Ep. 95 MAKING MOSAIC SUNFLOWERS IN PROFILE, the Mosaic Monarch Emerges and starting a Mosaic Stepping Stone!
Ep. 95 begins with a look at the background sunflowers which are in profile and not as bright as the three main sunflowers. Green glass is selected for the foliage and I start on the left most flower.
Then I grout the Monarch butterfly mosaic with black grout and it transforms the white spots that blended with the background! All the white spots are hand cut out of stained glass. The body is made with black stained glass and textured black stained glass.
Next I tackle the second background sunflower, which is partially covered by a leaf. The colors are much more subdued with lots of browns and dark ambers. I clean it up all the shards and prop it up to take a look from across the room. Looks good! Then I try the frame on for size and find some glass that needs to be pried up and cut off. I show how to use a spritz of water to loosen the adhesive, cut down the petals and replace the glass.
Then high winds knocked down a big mosaic I had hanging on a tree outside and I inspect the damage and figure out what happened. Fortunately, no damage to the mosaic occurred, so it is an easy fix.
Last of all, I start a new mosaic project- a stepping stone! I drew up a simple symmetrical pattern with a compass and ruler, pull my glass and transfer the design. Then I start laying in the glass using GE Advanced Silicone as the adhesive.
