Ruston and Hornsby oil (diesel) engine, Lake Goldsmith Steam Rally

This is a restored vintage (1932) Ruston and Hornsby oil (diesel) engine running on Sunday 4th May 2014 at the 2014 Lake Goldsmith Steam Rally (run by the Lake Goldsmith Steam Preservation Society). This engine runs on most types of heavy oil including sump oil and vegetable oil. Regular diesel is probably too light for optimal running. In fact, these engines were often used in oil fields and would run on crude oil, straight out of the ground after filtering out particulate matter (e.g. sand) and water. A magnificent restoration.
