You can think of this
You can think of this two ways:
* If you think Benzene is alternating single-and-double bonds, then you need 1 unhybridized p orbital to make the pi bond. That makes it sp2 hybridized
* If you know about resonance, then you still need 1 unhybridized p orbital to allow the electrons to 'circulate' around and delocalize. Same conclusion: sp2 hybridized.
