Prof Mathew Francis has been
Prof Mathew Francis has been teaching at IIM Kozhikode since 2007. He mainly teaches two courses - “Social Transformation in India” and “Globalization and culture”. Many alumni say he has impacted their lives, touching their hearts and minds. At the end of his course in 2011, a class surprised him with a tribute:
Dear Mathew Sir,
We were a bunch of illiterates,
nice brainwashed illiterates,
when we entered the IIMK campus for the first time,
As the children of capitalism,
we were getting inspired by the quotes of Mother Teresa and Chanakya on the way,
Little did we know that our old heroes will be destroyed,
our ideas will be challenged,
our lives will be changed, for better.
Little did we know, that we will change for better.
We were taught finance but you told us,
everything in life cannot be put on an excel sheet,
We were taught marketing but you told us,
humanity must not put a price tag on everything,
We were taught strategy,
but you taught us the strategy to handle the ignorant world,
We promise to strive for a more decent world,
Your education shall create a difference.
The tribute was written by his Class of 2012 student Sajal Kumar, who says:
"Prof Mathew’s teachings - his two courses, those film screenings, and the hours we spent outside the class discussing stuff. That is the most educational chapter of my life."
