Painite is a very rare mineral borate.
Painite is a very rare mineral borate.
Painite's chemical makeup contains calcium, zirconium, boron, aluminum and oxygen (CaZrAl 9 O 15 (BO 3)). Minerals are also trace amounts of chromium and vanadium. Painite is orange, reddish brown. Red is similar to topaz because of trace amounts of iron. The crystal is a natural hexagon, and until the end of 2004, only two pieces were cut into jeweled jewels.
