A Challenging Journey of Two Decades

The documentary “The Goal: KIZILELMA” brings you the story of the Bayraktar KIZILELMA unmanned fighter jet’s development – which ushered in a new era for Türkiye’s defense and aerospace industry, making a big noise worldwide.

“The Goal: KIZILELMA” tells the story of how Baykar developed Türkiye’s first unmanned fighter jet with its own financial resources, indigenously and originally. It also sheds light on the company’s efforts to develop high-tech, indigenous, and original unmanned aircrafts for the last two decades.

Featuring first-hand accounts of Baykar’s endeavor to develop high technology from retired servicemen, engineers and journalists, the documentary includes the comments of ex-military personnel, including Ret. Gen. Ergin Saygun and Ret. Brig. Gen. Ömer Faruk Küçük, about how their paths crossed with the Bayraktar family and the challenges that Baykar had to overcome. At the same time, Ömer Bayraktar, the brother of the late Özdemir Bayraktar who pioneered the National Technology Initiative, recollects the company’s perseverance and determination in the face of roadblocks, which led to its eventual success.

Directed by Altuğ Gültan and Burak Aksoy, who previously helmed the AKINCI documentary, The Goal: KIZILELMA was filmed over several months at the Özdemir Bayraktar National Technology Center in Istanbul and the AKINCI Flight Training and Test Center in Çorlu, Tekirdağ where Baykar tested the Bayraktar KIZILELMA. Altogether, the documentary project, which was launched in February 2022, was concluded after approximately nine months.
